Therapy That Is:

AEDP-Oriented

My approach is rooted in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), a model that supports healing through emotional processing in the context of a secure, loving therapeutic relationship. Together, we slow down, tune in, and create space for new experiences of connection, transformation, and self-compassion.

Holding Hands

LGBTQIA+ Affirming

As a queer therapist, I welcome clients across the spectrum of gender, sexuality, and relationship structures. Therapy is a space where all parts of you are invited to be seen, including those that have been marginalized or misunderstood. My aim is to provide care that affirms your identity and honors your lived experience.

Kneeling Protestors

Culturally Humble & Politically Aware

Healing doesn’t happen in a vacuum. I bring a culturally humble lens to therapy, informed by curiosity, ongoing learning, and awareness of systemic injustice. I honor how your cultural, racial, and political realities shape your inner world, and I strive to create a space where those complexities can be safely explored.

About Michelle Gross, LMHC:

Founder of Kindred Space Mental Health Counseling

Hi, I’m Michelle Gross (she/her), and I’m a queer, white, cisgender woman, a Southerner turned Brooklynite, someone in long-term recovery, a survivor of childhood trauma, and a chronic blusher - something that’s taught me a lot about sensitivity, shame, and what it means to be seen. All of these parts of me deeply inform how I show up in therapy with humility, care, and a commitment to creating space where you can be fully yourself.

I bring a down-to-earth, thoughtful, and sometimes playful energy to therapy. I believe healing is about recovering what's been hidden, silenced, or softened to survive, and it happens through real connection. I aim to co-create a space with you where you feel

both deeply seen and supported in your growth.

I offer virtual sessions only, and can service clients in New York State. Please reach out for a free consultation if you would like to chat about working together.

Some of the things we can work on together:

Attachment Wounds

Attachment wounds often stem from early experiences of misattunement, neglect, or inconsistent care. These patterns can quietly shape the way we relate to ourselves and others - leaving us feeling unworthy, anxious, or disconnected. In our work, we gently notice these patterns together and create new relational experiences in the therapy room that are attuned, consistent, and emotionally safe. My AEDP-informed approach helps you experience what it’s like to be deeply seen and supported, allowing old wounds to be felt and healed in real time.

Trauma

Whether you’ve experienced a single overwhelming event or carry the weight of chronic, complex trauma - like abuse, religious harm, or identity-based marginalization - your nervous system has adapted in ways that once helped you survive, but may now feel limiting or painful. With compassion and care, we work at your pace to gently explore these survival patterns. Using a somatic approach, I help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that have been shut down or fragmented, and support your innate capacity for healing, integration, and resilience.

Identity & Authenticity

You may feel like you’ve spent years shaping yourself around others’ expectations and losing touch with who you really are. Therapy can be a space to unmask, to unlearn, and to rediscover. I support clients in exploring identity through a lens that honors complexity - whether related to neurodiversity, disability, gender, sexuality, culture, politics, or personal history. Our work helps you get to know yourself from the inside out, reconnecting with your emotions and inner truth so you can live with more alignment and self-trust.

Relationship Challenges

So much of our wounding happens in relationships - and so does our healing. If you struggle with intimacy, boundaries, conflict, or trust, we can explore the underlying patterns that keep showing up. Using a relational and experiential approach, I help you tune into the emotional signals underneath these patterns and practice new ways of relating to others and to yourself. Therapy becomes a space where you can try on vulnerability and connection in real time, with support.

Shame

Shame often tells us we are “too much” or “not enough," and that if others saw who we really were, we’d be rejected. These beliefs can feel so isolating. In our work, we approach shame with tenderness and curiosity, not judgment. We begin to undo shame by feeling into the truth beneath it: the longing to be seen, loved, and accepted. As we build safety and trust, space opens up for more self-compassion and wholeness.

Emotion Regulation

Strong emotions can feel overwhelming, unfamiliar, or even dangerous, especially if you’ve had to suppress them for survival. In therapy, we don’t try to get rid of emotions - we listen to them. Whether it’s anger that’s been bottled up, anxiety that feels all-consuming, or sadness that’s been pushed aside, I help you slow down and build the capacity to feel without getting lost. We work together to expand your window of tolerance and reclaim emotions as sources of wisdom and energy.
